FAQs

Should I take an online test to determine my Enneagram type?

You will get different opinions on this based on the various schools of thought—my answer is a hard no.

Though the online tests can certainly encourage self-reflection and help you narrow down your options, I know that most people are not as self-aware as they think and will not answer multiple choice questions accurately. They often answer based on how they think they are or how they want to, skewing their results.

All too often I have seen Enneagram tests cause greater confusion for people who do not see their personalities reflected accurately. The most accurate way to determine your Enneagram type is to book a typing session with a certified Enneagram coach.

I already know my Enneagram type. Can I jump straight into an “Understand” or “Transform” session or package?

Of course you can! If you've read through the descriptions of each type and you're confident that you've landed on the right one, then there is no need to book a typing interview. If you're not very familiar with the structure of the Enneagram and how it all works, I would recommend booking a “Discover” session first. Otherwise, you are most welcome to start with an “Understand” or “Transformation” session!

Can I book a face-to-face coaching session, or do you only offer online Zoom meetings?

If you are located within a 10 mile radius of West Chester, PA, then a face-to-face session can be arranged at no additional cost (subject to my availability). If you are outside this radius, then additional travel fees will apply for a face-to-face session.

What makes the Enneagram different from other personality typing systems, like Myers Briggs?

While most personality typing systems focus on your character traits and general behavior, the Enneagram goes below the surface and looks at the motivation behind your thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns. It also highlights how you may adjust when under stress and when in a place of security or growth. In this way, it increases your self-awareness in the present moment and encourages you to respond to stressful situations in a healthier way.

Why do I need to know my Enneagram type? How will this knowledge improve my life?

Discovering your Enneagram type and realizing the ways that it impacts your life is the ultimate lightbulb moment. Most of the time we are unaware of the true motivations behind our thoughts, feelings, and actions, living our lives on auto-pilot. The Enneagram gives language to these aspects and shows you the ways in which you are self-sabotaging and not showing up as your true and authentic self. It provides a path to growth—a way out of destructive patterns and into a more rich and fulfilling life experience.

With determination and hard work, guided by a certified Enneagram coach, you will see improvements in your relationships (both personal and professional), your personal goals, and the way that you view yourself and the world.

I don't like to be put in a box. Doesn't the Enneagram just force everyone into a category and assume we're all the same?

Definitely not! Each person has their own unique personality, experiences, thoughts. and feelings that cannot be contained in just nine categories. The purpose of the Enneagram is not to put you into a box, but rather to identify the box that you are already in (as a result of the fundamental ways that you perceive the world and yourself) and offer you a way out. The goal is to be released from the things that prevent you from bringing your true and authentic self to the world!

Can my Enneagram type change, or will I always be the same type?

Your Enneagram type is completely developed by the age of 5, and you will always be the same Enneagram type. However, with greater self-awareness and practical steps through coaching, you can learn to break free of the negative aspects of your Enneagram type and become the best version of yourself.

How do you use the Enneagram through the lens of the Gospel?

The Enneagram gives us a roadmap to where we most need God’s healing and offers us 9 distinct pathways of transformation. Beth McCord of Your Enneagram Coach shares that, “the heart of the problem is the problem of our hearts.” Change comes from the inside-out and affects our thinking, feeling, and behavior.
